AVI-8 Hawker Hurricane Kenley Clowes Automatic Pilot Watch with Black Aged Dial #AV-4097-03

Inspired by the Royal Air Force's No. 1 squadron and Arthur "Taffy" Clowes, the Hawker Hurricane Clowes automatic is a large, pronounced pilot's watch that honors their accomplishments during WWII. At a full 46mm in diameter, the Clowes Automatic has an enormous amount of wrist presence. The domed, scratch resistant sapphire crystal gives the watch a feeling of depth. Speaking of depth, the dial is done in a beautiful camouflage relief reminiscent of the plane that Clowes flew.

The watch is loaded with hints to its pedigree. There is the motto of the squadron at the 6:00 position, "In omnibus princeps" ("First in all things"), aircraft call sign above the date, a silhouette of the aircraft as the seconds hand counterbalance, accent colored "1" on the inner hour dial, and an amazing etching of the squadron badge on the caseback. The watch itself is powered by the Seiko NH35 movement, which hand winds and hacks. For low-light visibility, the raised numbers and hands are treated with Super-LumiNova. The simple pilot strap has a deep taper, going from 22mm at the lug, to 18mm at the buckle.
